Weblog or blog, not “web blog”

I think the term “weblog” is a good one. It looks like a real word and it contains an implicit description of what weblogs are. Considering when the term was coined, in the heady days of “monetizion” and “infomediaries,” I think we are lucky indeed to have something as, well, low-key as weblog.

I personally don’t care much for the shortened version, “blog,” when used as noun, but as a verb, it works very well.

Now, as bloggers immemoriate will glady tell you, the origins of these terms are well documented. From “weblog” sprang “we-blog,” and from hence forth, simply “blog.”

There is, however, no such thing as a “web blog.”

Here’s to presuming that Mr. Rushkoff succumbed to a typo.
